Year 9–12 students from Morogoro International School, recently travelled by train to Dar es Salaam to enjoy a live performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Little Theatre. The trip offered students a valuable cultural and educational experience beyond the classroom. Thanks to Tanzania’s Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), the journey between Morogoro and Dar es Salaam was comfortable and efficient, making opportunities like this more accessible for the school and opening the door to enriching learning experiences outside the classroom.
Talented Performers from Arusha

The performance was brought to life by talented students from Braeburn Arusha International School, who are part of a well-established performing arts programme spanning music, drama, dance, and theatre. These students have developed their skills over years of classes and extracurricular work, rehearsing extensively and gaining experience in stagecraft, teamwork, and performance. Braeburn student productions often tour multiple cities, including Arusha, Dar es Salaam, and Nairobi, giving audiences across the region the chance to enjoy professional-quality shows while providing their students with valuable real-world performing experience.
Experiencing Shakespeare Firsthand

A Midsummer Night’s Dream explores themes of love, identity, and imagination, with intertwined stories of humans and fairies creating a playful and thought-provoking narrative. Watching the play live helps students appreciate the rhythm, wordplay, and performance aspects of Shakespeare, complementing the reading and listening activities in the classroom. For students studying the play as part of their IGCSE English Literature curriculum, it was a unique chance to see Shakespeare’s text transformed into a live performance, enhancing understanding in ways that reading alone cannot achieve.

Experiencing literature through multiple mediums, reading, listening, and viewing performances, deepens comprehension and engagement, developing lifelong learning and critical thinking skills.
Thanks to the English Department
A big thank you goes to Mr Amar, Mrs Laizer and Mrs Moore who organised the trip and ensured our students could enjoy an inspiring experience. By combining educational objectives with travel and cultural exposure, MIS continues to emphasise the value of learning beyond the classroom and providing students with opportunities to explore arts, culture, and history in real-world settings.
Trips like this highlight the importance of embracing holistic education, where students can connect texts studied in class with live performances. Thanks to convenient transport links to Morogoro, our students can easily access enriching events not just in Dar es Salaam, but also in Dodoma, making experiential learning both accessible and memorable.
MIS looks forward to more opportunities for students to explore literature, arts, and culture while developing curiosity, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the world around them.
