Primary School

During Key Stages 1 and 2, students develop a solid foundation in literacy and numeracy skills at the same time as learning emotional and social skills and developing their curiosity and creativity.

Years 1-6

At MIS, primary school education consists of Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with standardised checkpoint tests at the end of Key Stage 2. During the Key Stages, as well as providing a solid foundation in language and numeracy skills, we consolidate our students’ personal, social and emotional skills; skills which will enable our students to meet the challenges they will face in the following stages of education, and beyond.

Learning in Primary

Our Primary School currently serves approximately 170 students from Nursery to Year 6. We are a one-stream school that follows the Cambridge International Education curriculum, delivered by our highly qualified classroom teachers.

Our Staff

Our Staff

MIS staff are committed to meeting the needs of all our students by providing an effective instructional program designed to improve students’ academic, social, emotional, and physical growth. Our Primary teaching staff includes Tanzanian, American, British, Australian, and French educators, making us a truly diverse and international department.

What We Teach

What We Teach

In Primary, we teach a variety of subjects, including Maths, Literacy, Science, Humanities, Physical Education (PE), Art, ICT, Swahili, Swimming, and Drama. Immersion in English begins from the first day of school, although it is complemented by the learning of other languages as they progress through school.

SEN

SEN

Our Special Educational Needs (SEN) staff includes a full-time SEN coordinator who collaborates closely with classroom teachers and teaching assistants to ensure differentiated support and student progress. Additionally, English as a Second Language (ESL) pull-out sessions are available for students who need extra support.

After-School Clubs

At MIS, the normal school day ends for all students (except Early Years) at 2:45 pm. We offer a variety of after-school activities ranging from Art, Coding, Birding, and Drama to sports such as swim training, basketball, cross country, and football. Activities are run by MIS teachers.

We encourage students to participate in these enrichment experiences; however, commitment is an integral part of the clubs, and parents must sign their child up for a specific club. If students commit themselves to an after-school club, they are expected to attend regularly and be on time with the required kit.
