At Morogoro International School (MIS), we are dedicated to preparing our students for life beyond the classroom with curiosity, ambition, and a commitment to lifelong learning. This dedication was evident last Saturday, 16th November, when 21 students from our Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) participated in the “Study in North America” Education Fair, organised by EduKwanza in Dar es Salaam.

As part of our Further Education and Careers Programme, the trip, led by Mr. Barnett alongside Ms. Laizer and Peter Carlisle, offered students a unique opportunity to explore higher education opportunities across the United States and Canada.

Riding the train to Dar es Salaam

The journey began with an exciting trip aboard the SGR train from Morogoro to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival at the Johari Rotana Hotel, students were immersed in an environment bustling with representatives from over 35 universities in North America.

Inside the fair, students eagerly engaged with university representatives to learn about entry requirements, tuition costs, accommodation options, and campus facilities. Popular fields of interest included law, engineering, and medicine, but students also explored diverse programmes tailored to their individual aspirations.

Supporting Students’ Next Steps

This visit was made possible through our growing collaboration with EduKwanza, whose mission is to help students realise their full potential by supporting them in their next steps in education. By working together, we ensure that MIS students are equipped with the resources, guidance, and opportunities they need to navigate higher education options abroad confidently and successfully.

The fair played a key role in guiding students as they consider what they would like to do after completing their A-levels at MIS. For our Year 13 students, who are already planning their transition to higher education, this event provided valuable insights into studying abroad. For Year 12 students, it was an opportunity to broaden their horizons as they begin to map out their post-MIS journey.

Reflecting MIS Values

At MIS, we take pride in nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped to excel in an interconnected world. Our core values—respect, integrity, and responsibility—are central to this mission. The trip not only demonstrated our commitment to academic excellence but also encouraged students to take responsibility for their futures while serving as respectful ambassadors of MIS.

Form Students between classes at MIS

Our Sixth Form (AS- and A-Levels) programme is designed to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Through tailored academic support, a wide range of subject offerings, and activities like the EduKwanza Education Fair, MIS helps students make informed decisions about their futures, ensuring they are ready to thrive in their chosen pathways.

A Bright Future

This visit to the “Study in North America” Fair is just one example of how MIS empowers students to dream big and act boldly. With collaborative support from EduKwanza and our Sixth Form support team, we are setting up our students for success in higher education and beyond. We look forward to seeing how these experiences shape their futures and help them achieve their goals.
