This week is Anti-Bullying Week, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the effects of bullying and encouraging kindness, inclusion, and respect in schools and communities. The 2025 theme, “Power for Good,” reminds us that each of us has the ability to make a positive difference through our words and actions.

The Importance of Anti-Bullying Week

Anti-Bullying Week was first established by the Anti-Bullying Alliance in the United Kingdom to highlight the impact of bullying on children and young people and to inspire collective action to stop it. Since then, it has grown into an international movement that unites schools around the world in promoting respect, empathy, and understanding.

Bullying, whether physical, verbal, or online, can have lasting effects on a young person’s confidence, wellbeing, and ability to thrive. Campaigns such as this week’s remind us that prevention begins with awareness — and that everyone has a role to play in building a safe, supportive environment for others.

Student Leadership Assembly

MIS Assembly for Odd socks day anti-bullying week 2025

At Morogoro International School, our Student Leadership Team will lead a special assembly to acknowledge this important week. The assembly will focus on the theme of “Power for Good” and explore how students can act as positive role models and allies for one another. It will also provide an opportunity to share practical ways to respond to unkind behavior and to celebrate the many examples of kindness already present in our school community.

Odd Socks Day – Friday, 14 November

2025 Odd Socks Day at MIS

As part of the week’s activities, students and staff are encouraged to wear odd socks on Friday. Odd Socks Day is a simple yet powerful symbol of individuality and acceptance. Wearing mismatched socks celebrates the idea that we are all different, and those differences make our community stronger.

PSHE Discussions and Scenarios

In Secondary PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education), students will take part in discussions and scenario-based exercises that focus on understanding bullying, its effects, and strategies for prevention. PSHE is an important part of the MIS curriculum, helping students develop emotional intelligence, social awareness, and the confidence to make responsible choices. These sessions encourage empathy and reflection, reinforcing that small acts of kindness and courage can have a big impact.

Standing by Our Values

At MIS, our core values of Respect, Integrity, and Responsibility guide all that we do. Anti-Bullying Week provides an opportunity to live out those values — by speaking up, showing compassion, and ensuring that everyone feels safe and valued.Together, we can use our Power for Good to make MIS a place where every student can thrive, learn, and belong.
