At Morogoro International School (MIS), Service Learning goes beyond volunteering—it’s about student-led initiatives aimed at understanding community needs and taking meaningful action. It’s an opportunity for student leaders to step up, work collaboratively, and make a positive impact on the world around us.
Planning With Purpose
Every member of the Service Learning Club was given a planning sheet to brainstorm and develop ideas on how we could serve our community. After reviewing everyone’s proposals, we voted as a group to decide on the initiative we were most passionate about. From there, we shifted our focus to fundraising—coming up with creative ways to raise the money needed to make a real difference.
Ideas flowed, and soon we were organizing bake sales, planning donation drives, and even hosting sports tournaments. These efforts helped us raise the funds needed to support a cause we deeply cared about.
A Special Visit to the Amani Centre

Back in September 2024, we reached out to the Amani Centre to learn more about how we could help. They shared with us a list of items they needed, particularly for the children in their care who were lacking basic supplies.
Using the funds we raised, we purchased essential items including shoes, stationery, and a few toys to bring smiles to the children’s faces. On Tuesday, March 18th, we had the opportunity to visit the Amani Centre, take a tour of the facility, and meet the wonderful children there. It was a day filled with connection, learning, and gratitude.
Why Service Learning Matters

Service Learning is an important part of the MIS experience because it empowers students to be active, compassionate citizens. It teaches responsibility, fosters leadership, and builds real-world connections with the community. It’s more than just giving—it’s about learning how to lead with empathy and making a lasting impact, one thoughtful step at a time.
