MIS Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)
Building CommunityThe Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Morogoro International School plays an essential role in strengthening collaboration between parents, guardians, and staff. Together, we work to create a positive and inclusive school environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
MIS Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)
OUR PURPOSE
The MIS PTA exists to strengthen the connection between families and the school. Our objectives are threefold: to encourage good relationships between parents and the school’s management, to promote the welfare of students through social and fundraising initiatives, and to support enrichment activities that enhance the educational experience for all learners.
We are a non-political and non-religious group that brings the school community together through cooperation, creativity, and shared purpose. Whether through organizing events, improving facilities, or funding special projects, the PTA stands as a bridge between home and school life.
The PTA is not a decision-making body for the school and does not replace the established channels of communication between parents, teachers, and school leadership. Parents are encouraged to express constructive concerns, ideas, and suggestions about academic, personal, or organizational matters through the appropriate channels.
Who We Are
Membership of the PTA is open to all parents, guardians, and members of staff at MIS. Every parent and teacher is automatically part of the wider PTA community, but those who wish to take on a more active role can do so in two ways—by joining the Core Committee or by becoming a Friend of the PTA.
The Core Committee
The Core Committee consists of elected members who meet regularly to plan and coordinate PTA activities. The Core Committee oversees fundraising, organizes school events, manages finances, and ensures that PTA activities align with the school’s goals and values.
Joining the Core Committee is a wonderful opportunity to contribute ideas, develop projects, and take part in shaping the MIS experience for all students. Elections are held annually at the start of the school year, and new volunteers are always welcome.
Friends of the PTA
We understand that many parents would like to support the PTA but cannot commit to regular meetings or year-round involvement. For this reason, we have established a flexible way to participate—the Friends of the PTA group.
Friends of the PTA are community members who are called upon to assist during specific events and initiatives. This might include the annual Swimming Gala, Sports Day and lending a hand at the Christmas Fair, or contributing to other fundraising and social activities throughout the year. The Core Committee provide essential support, ensuring each event runs smoothly and successfully and Friends can help take on smaller tasks without having to attend meetings and hold positions. This option is ideal for parents who want to be involved on a more occasional basis while still making a meaningful contribution to school life. It can look as simple as baking a cake for the PTA stand at the Christmas Fair.
What We Do
The PTA’s work extends beyond organizing events. Each year, we support projects that directly benefit students, staff, and the wider MIS community. In the past, our initiatives have included sponsoring sports and arts programs, and funding student enrichment opportunities.
Highlights shared on the school social media accounts showcase the PTA’s dedication to creating memorable experiences for our students—whether through festive celebrations, educational workshops, or community gatherings that bring families together. The funds we raise are 100% reinvested into the school, ensuring every shilling and every volunteer hour contributes to improving the learning environment.
How to Get Involved
Becoming part of the PTA community is simple. Parents and staff are encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting held at the beginning of each school year, where new committee members are elected and plans for the year ahead are discussed. Those interested in joining as a Friend of the PTA can sign up at any time by contacting the committee.
If you would like to learn more about how you can help, please reach out through the MIS PTA email. Whether you choose to serve on the Core Committee, volunteer as a Friend of the PTA, or simply support our events, your involvement is invaluable.
Together, we continue to build a strong, supportive, and vibrant MIS community, one where every family has the opportunity to make a difference and every child can succeed.
