A very warm welcome to a new academic year here at Morogoro International School (MIS). If you are a parent new to MIS welcome to our community and for returning parents welcome back. My name is Peter Carlisle, and I am very happy to be the new Headteacher of MIS.

For those of you who haven’t met me yet, I joined the school last year as Head of Secondary and prior to that I worked in schools in the UK, Asia and South America. I have been a teacher for 25 years and held leadership roles for 20 years.

Main Priorities

As Headteacher I have three priorities:

– The school

– The students

– The staff

Our students will always be at the centre of everything we do, I want them to develop and grow during their time here at MIS and when the time comes to leave us, they are resilient independent thinkers, with the necessary skills to take on the challenges of a twenty first century world. For us to achieve this we need a well-resourced school and dedicated staff to provide outstanding learning opportunities for students, which is why all the above are equally important.

Last year the school invested heavily in essential educational resources, IT upgrades and school infrastructure and, both I and the Board are committed to doing the same in this new academic year. In addition to continuing improving the school’s facilities we are also devoting a significant amount of funds towards staff training and development to upskill our existing staff, while continuing to add quality staff when required.

Communication

Other things I’m looking to improve this year are communication, parental engagement and giving back to the community. It’s important for me to hear from you, the parents, and to facilitate this I’m planning to run a series of workshops and discussions sessions for parents that will start in Term 1 and run regularly throughout the year. Moreover, I want them to be both specific to your child’s year and/or Key Stage but also cover other areas of the school and wider community.

It’s an exciting time to be part of MIS and I’m very much looking forward to the year ahead.
